The Certificate in Public Health

Overview

The 1988 Institute of Medicine Report on the “Future of Public Health” states that there is a consistent demand for focused efforts that address the infrastructure and core services of public health. To address this need and fill the gap in educational programs available to practitioners, the UAB School of Public Health has developed a certificate program.

The Certificate in Public Health allow a student to take general public health courses without being admitted to a degree program. The certificate is a 16-credit hour program of study. The content is the same as the core content taught in UAB’s MPH program. All courses are offered via distance education. Upon successful completion of program requirements, students will receive a certificate of completion awarded by the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Only students who enroll in and complete the certificate program are eligible to receive a certificate. Students enrolled in an MPH degree seeking program are not eligible to receive a certificate.
