The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), which is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health. Every seven years CEPH requires re-accreditation. A part of that process is the completion of a self-study using criteria prescribed by CEPH and organized into four major sections: (1) The School, (2) Instructional Programs, (3) Creation, Application and Advancement of Knowledge, and (4) Faculty, Staff and Students. Additionally, schools seeking accreditation must host a site visit by a CEPH team.
In its June 15-18, 2016 meeting, the Council on Education for Public Heath re-accredited the School of Public Health for a seven-year term, extending the School’s accreditation to July 1, 2023.
The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) is the only independent agency recognized the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs. CEPH assists schools and programs in evaluating the quality of their instructional, research and service efforts, and grants accreditation to those schools and programs that meet its published criteria.
We remain the only CEPH accredited School of Public Health in Alabama.
